“The World is a book, and those who do not travel only read one page.” (St. Augustine of Hippo)
That is my favorite quote ever…and I’m not one to walk around quoting people! It is true though! I’ve read far more than one page in this “book” and I try to read more pages every day. Never stop learning or trying new things, right?
Most of what I’ve learned is by traveling around our country and experiencing what my past school teachers were lecturing about in the classroom. Or, even better, by learning and experiencing brand new things as I travel to new places.
You do not need to travel far and wide in order to read more pages in the “book”. There are many opportunities to do something for the first time and experience the world in your own town, city, or state.
Here’s a little inspiration to get out there and read more pages:
Have you ever sat on top of a mountain and just looked out at the never-ending view?

The early morning view from the top of Deer Mountain in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Have you ever floated down a river that wasn’t considered “lazy”?
Have you ever looked out the window of the airplane as you travel from point A to point B?
Have you ever bought dinner from a farmer’s market instead of a fancy restaurant?

Local produce is so much more flavorful, juicier and tastier!
Have you ever driven out of your way just to cross the border of a state you’ve never been to? Yes, I’ve been to Idaho! Just not very far in.
Have you ever spent the afternoon floating in the rolling waves of a lake? Um, yes…that was me yesterday and the day before and the day before that.
Have you ever set out on a road trip with no destination in mind?
Have you ever been to the top of the tallest building of a major city and marveled at all of the activity below?

The people look like ants!
Have you ever toured a factory to learn about the work that goes into producing something?
Have you ever taken your family camping and let your kids swim until they decided it was time to get out?
Have you ever ridden a train across part of your country?

The train has arrived!
Have you ever played tourist in your own town, or tried to fit in with the locals while visiting somewhere new?
Have you ever visited historical sites and learned about the history of your town, our country, or where your ancestors lived?
Have you ever sat on the shore of the ocean and listened to the waves crashing?

The ocean, the beach, the waves…
Have you ever been somewhere that made you forget about work, checking email, or updating your status?
Have you ever done something that you’ve always dreamed of?
Have you ever spent a week somewhere that was so remote there wasn’t electricity, running water, or cell service? Yes, I’m thinking about those fishing trips in Canada.

There’s no grocery store nearby, so you need to catch your own dinner.
Happy fourth of July everyone! What’s your “Have you ever?”
I have done most of these but the one thing I would love to do over and over again is to sit on the beach, watch and listen to the waves lapping on the shore. So relaxing!
I agree! I love the beach!
I love that I’ve done many of these things but I got some ideas for more things to do! Fun post!
Thank you!
