Family Activities at Heartwood Resort
The Heartwood Resort property is home to 20 kilometers of trails that you can hike, bike, ski, and snowshoe. The Resort also provides guests with complimentary cross country skis, ski boots, and snowshoes to use during your stay. You can view Heartwood’s trail map here.
Believe it or not, the weather can get pretty hot in Wisconsin, and during those hot summer days everyone is out on the water. Here at Heartwood your family can play on the beach or on the nearby Namekagon River.
The beach at Heartwood, is very sandy and located near the lodges. At the beach you’ll find kayaks, canoes, inner tubes, and paddle boards that are sure to keep your family busy all day long. The beach is on Hoinville Lake, which is motor free. Nice and quiet!
The Namakagon River, also known as Wisconsin’s moving National Park, is right next to the Resort property, so you can’t miss getting out on the river for a scenic float. Guests of Heartwood receive shuttle service to one section of the river, your family floats or paddles down the river, and then Heartwood will pick you up and bring you back to the Resort.
Once your family is done playing on the water all day, you get to relax at your room and enjoy the lake view. The evening and early morning means it’s time for the wildlife to play in the water and you’ll likely spot some geese, ducks, or deer.
When your family is not out playing on the water, it’s time to play out on the field. Heartwood Resort has basketball, tennis, and volleyball courts and all the equipment you’ll need. There are soccer and softball fields for summer fun, and an ice rink for winter fun.
Has your family ever played disc golf before? Heartwood is home to the Namekagon National Disc Golf Course. Disc rental is complimentary for guests, and you have three courses to play on.
Heartwood is also close to area snowmobile and ATV trails for your family to explore.
Don’t forget to pack the supplies for s’mores and you can end your perfect vacation day around the many campfire rings throughout the property.
The Restaurant and Coffee Shop at Heartwood Resort
The restaurant at Heartwood Resort is the Pine Lodge Restaurant. It’s open to guests and the general public. The menu has a variety of favorites, and you can check it out here. Just remember, when on vacation in Wisconsin, you can’t let a Friday night go by without eating a Friday night fish fry.
Journey’s at Heartwood is the newest coffee shop in the area. They feature coffee and baked goods from Backroads Coffee in nearby Hayward, and the pastries are absolutely delicious!
All of the lodging, besides the standard rooms, have at least a kitchenette. You’ll be able to prepare some easy meals right in your room. The nearest grocery store is in Minong, but Heartwood does have a small food market in the gift shop.
The Lodging Options at Heartwood Resort
Book a room at Eagle Lodge and your family will have a front row view of the lake from your private deck or balcony. There are standard and deluxe lodge rooms, but I would recommend the deluxe lodge room because of the kitchenette. All rooms have a mini fridge and microwave which are always welcome.
Two of the Eagle Lodge buildings (Bald and Golden Eagle) have common areas with a fireplace, games, seating area and table. Golden Eagle also has an outdoor hot tub overlooking the lake. If your family didn’t get enough of a workout playing around the resort, there is a fitness center too.
The rates of the lodge rooms vary from $169-189 per night from this summer thru fall. One night is charged at the time of your reservation. Your family will definitely get their money’s worth at this resort. Check out Heartwood’s website for more info on prices.

Deluxe Room in Golden Eagle Lodge
If your family needs a little bit more room, there are five two-bedroom cottages, four houses, and ten duplex cabins available to rent.

Hoinville House – 5 bedrooms
Heartwood Resort is a popular destination for family reunions, weddings, and family vacations because of the lodging options and everything that they offer to their guests.
Well, can you picture your family sitting along the lake in Heartwood’s famous red chairs yet? The resort has so many activities for your whole family, but it’s also a nice place to relax and enjoy the quiet of the Northwoods.
