Breakfast – A Food First by Friday

I have to say that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day! I love everything from eggs to pancakes to cereal, but of course, don’t have the time to make a decent breakfast each morning. I also don’t need the calories! One solution in our family is to have breakfast for dinner, it’s easy and food that the whole family will eat.

Since we are short on time in the mornings, my breakfast usually is toast with peanut butter and jelly, or yogurt with fruit and granola.  So, for this challenge, I parted ways with my normal breakfast and had a couple of different foods.  It also helped that we were on vacation in Colorado this last week, and it’s always a little easier to try new foods while traveling.

Close to our cabin in Estes Park was a small place called Scratch Bakery.  They serve some delicious breakfast burritos, that are huge and only cost $5-$6.  They don’t have a ton of flavor combinations, but I did find one that I haven’t had before.  A Spanish burrito.  This was quite the spicy breakfast!  The burrito had eggs, potatoes, chorizo, and green chile salsa.  It was great!

This breakfast will wake you up! Spicy!

Since the breakfast burrito was so spicy, I needed a sweet breakfast the next day.  Cinnamon rolls are sweet, so off to Cinnamon’s Bakery we went.  I tried a sampling of their various rolls, but one I never had tried before was the raspberry filled cinnamon roll.  So good!  Cinnamon’s offers a daily fruit-filled cinnamon roll, so you get a little variety.

Not the healthiest breakfast, but they are so good!

Why we do the Food First Before Friday Challenge

Incorporating new experiences into your life doesn’t have to be a big event, in fact, it can be a simple first that can change your week.  The main thing is to just try something new!  So, I am doing a weekly challenge to try one new food by next Friday.  Yes, just one new food a week.  But just think, after one year, you’ll have experienced 52 new foods that you probably wouldn’t have even tried without this challenge!  Each Friday, I’ll post the challenge and the results from the prior week.

Next Week’s Challenge

Since we tried something new for breakfast last week, it’s time to try something new for lunch.  Change up your sandwich or venture away from last night’s leftovers.  Try some new foods for your lunch next week and be the talk of the lunchroom!

How did your family do with their new breakfast foods this past week?  Any new favorites?
